So just in time for this Texas summer heat, view I stumbled upon a beautiful, bright summer beer put out by none other than our own, Karbach Brewing! I have not had a bad Karbach yet….and this one did not disappoint. It was just as light, crisp and refreshing as the flavor profile suggests.
It was pleasantly tart and sweet with a healthy dose of carbonation….perfect for a Texas afternoon! You could smell the citrus as soon as you popped the top! Like you just cut into a fresh lemon.
It had a peppery ginger bite at the end that didn’t overpower the citrus, but gave a nice clean finish. No hop bitterness, slightly creamy from the malts but still very light.
So, for curiosity sake, this being a fruit beer and all, I added a slice of lemon and was pleasantly surprised. It tamed the ginger bite almost to extinction…so if you like citrus, but are not a fan of ginger, then don’t let the name deter you! Grab a six pack and a few lemons! It brought out all the lemon flavors mixed into the brew and made it sweeter. Even with the addition of lemon this isn’t like drinking drinking a lemonade or cider, you still get the complex, lager-like feel and taste from drinking craft beer.
I tried straight out of the can and poured draft, no significant flavor changes, however I got more carbonation drinking from the can, which I enjoyed. It reinforced that crisp, refreshing mouth feel.
I will definitely be picking up more of this through the summer…as long as it is available. Limited time guys…don’t let it get away!
